ROUGHING IT IS NOT FOR ME!

For the past week - a space heater and this fire have been our only source of heat!   Luckily, they installed a new furnace today and the house is beginning to warm up.  Just in time for the horrible Winter Storm that they are predicting for our area.... I'll believe it, when I see it.  In any case, we have heat and I can go back to wearing short sleeves in the house!

It's kind of funny.. if it were 53 degrees in the house in the middle of July we would enjoy it.  When it's that temperature in the winter, we complain because it's too cold.  The hubster said he knew it was cold because I had on long sleeves, a sweater/robe, and had moved my chair right next to the fire.

This lack of heat, got me to thinking about settlers who traveled to this area to homestead.  I can't imagine trying to live in a sod house only heated with wood.  But then again, I guess you can't miss what you don't know about. Still, I admire those people who trekked across the country to find a place where they could make a life for themselves.  Although, I doubt they had any idea what Missouri weather was like, before they decided to stop here.  I imagine that there were a few, that thought they had made a bad decision - especially that first summer and winter.

The news has been running a list of school closings for tomorrow in the area and not one drop of precipitation has started to fall. (At least not where I am.)  The newscaster said that schools were deciding to make the decision tonight, rather than get up in the morning to decide and then make a decision by 5:30 am.  I can remember times that I was up, dressed, and heading out the door before I got the phone call that school was canceled.  I thought that is what the Superintendent and bus company got paid for .... to make the decisions for that particular day?  I could go back to when I was in school... I can't remember missing too much school for bad weather.  Maybe we're just becoming soft in our society!

IF the storm hits.... be careful, stay warm, and make sure that your pets have a warm place to be!

Laters, y'all!!
